UMSL's
Zhi Xu Wins
2004
Entrepreneur-of-the-Year Award
Dr. Zhi
Xu, Associate Professor of Chemistry at UMSL, received the
2004 Entrepreneur-of-the-Year Award from UM President Elson Floyd
at the April 6th Technology Transfer Showcase. Dr. Xu's work focuses
on optical spectroscopy, which measures the emission and absorption
of light, and has applications in many fields. He discovered and
developed a new ultra-sensitive spectrophotometer that has the
potential to increase the sensitivity of such instruments by at
least 100 fold and ultimately by as much as 1000 fold over the
best devices that are available today. A commercial product from
this technology will be launched by early summer, with expected
annual licensing revenue in the mid-six figures.
